Copper and red hair are similar, but not technically the same. Think of "red" as an umbrella term. Anything in this shade family -- ginger, auburn, copper, even burgundy -- are all considered "red" hair colors. There is a lot of difference between them, though. Some are gold-based, like Molten Copper-R. Copper looks a little more orange than purple due to amount of gold undertone to the mix. This is why they are often referred to as "gold-based reds." Other shades of red may look more purple or wine, like our Smoked Plum-R color. These are often referred to as "blue-based reds" because they have blue or violet tones blended into the mix rather than gold. All are still types of "red" hair color.
